Our Early Recovery Programs
People’s Medicine Project has been engaging in substance abuse prevention and recovery work since 2014. In 2017, we recognized the need for more access to tools and services that would support individuals in early recovery. We created two specific offerings to support our community members during this vulnerable time: Acupuncture Access Program and Homeopathy for Addictive Substances Program.
Growing scientific evidence has affirmed that alternative health care offers many viable solutions to manage pain, acute withdrawal symptoms, and treat PAWS (Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome). People’s Medicine Project collaborates closely with the Opioid Task Force and is committed to expanding access to tools for prevention and recovery.
Acupuncture Access Program
We identified acupuncture as a modality that most significantly eased the symptoms of early withdrawal, including anxiety, digestive issues, and cravings that can be very severe in the first weeks and months and make relapse more likely. Acupuncture is also a useful modality to address chronic pain that may underlie dependence on opioids. A person in this phase of their recovery benefits from 2-3 acupuncture treatments per week.
The Acupuncture Access Program enables people in early opioid recovery to access frequent and consistent acupuncture through our local business partner, Greenfield Community Acupuncture (GCA). People’s Medicine Project manages referrals and raises funds to pay GCA for discounted treatments. All treatments are offered free of charge to low-income individuals in early opioid recovery.

Homeopathy for Addictive Substance Cravings Program
This program offers homeopathy to support community members in early recovery. Clients and community members experiencing cravings for addictive substances can access a safe and supportive homeopathic remedy during our clinic hours. Peoples Medicine Project clinic staff and providers can dispense the remedy and offer instructions for future use.
